Nach Jahren kehrt Phillip in sein nordfriesisches Heimatdorf zurück. Nun, da eine alte Clique wieder vollzählig ist, sterben mehrere seiner Freunde. Die Polizei steht vor einem Rätsel: Die Opfer sind ertrunken, obwohl das Meer weit entfernt ist. Es gibt nur eine Erklärung: Ein Wiedergänger treibt sein grausames Unwesen. Stirbt ein Unschuldiger, heißt es in einer Legende, kommt er zwei Generationen später als "Gonger" wieder, um sich an den Enkeln seiner Mörder zu rächen.
