Mothman - Die Rückkehr

Beim Baden ertrinkt ein Junge. Aus Angst um ihre Zukunftsaussichten beschließen seine für den Unfall verantwortlichen Freunde, über die wahre Todesursache stillschweigen zu bewahren. Zehn Jahre später wird die angehende Journalistin Katherine in ihr Heimatdorf geschickt, um vom dortigen Mothman-Festival zu berichten. Ihre ehemaligen Freunde sind immer noch traumatisiert von den Ereignissen damals und begegnen ihr mit Ausnahme ihres Ex-Freundes Derek mit Skepsis. Dann taucht der Mottenmann auf und beginnt seine blutige Arbeit. Der Syfy Channel hat den Mottenmann-Mythos entdeckt, der in Hollywood bereits 2002 mit "Die Mothman Prophezeiungen" mit Richard Gere verarbeitet wurde. Diese Version ist deutlich grobmotorischer, ist aber trotzdem unterhaltsam, weil Regisseur Sheldon Wilson Spaß an den Trashaspekten hat und in einer Variation von "Ich weiß, was Du letzten Sommer getan hast" ordentlich auf die Kacke haut. Mit Jewel Staite ("Firefly") ist der bisweilen auch atmosphärisch gelungene Schocker obendrein gut besetzt.

In Point Pleasant, land of the legend The Mothman, a group of seven teenage friends accidentally kills the boy Jamie (Alex Hardee) in a prank by the river and they decide to cover up the incident. Ten years later, the journalist of the Washington Weekly Katharine Grant, who was one of the seven teenagers, is assigned by her editor to return to her hometown to prepare a matter about the 10th Mothman Festival. She meets with the other six friends that have stayed in the town and sooner they are murdered one by one by The Mothman. Katherine and her former boyfriend Derek seek help with old blind man Frank Waverly that has been luring The Mothman for many years trying to save their lives from the punishment of the entity.
