High School Musical: Das Musical: Die Serie

15 Jahre nach dem „High School Musical“-Film soll die Handlung der Serienadaption anknüpfen. Im Mittelpunkt steht eine neue Generation von musikalisch begabten Schülern, die an der Schule lernen, an der damals der erfolgreiche Musikfilm gedreht wurde. Die East High will das Musical nun auch endlich einmal aufführen und muss feststellen, dass abseits der Bühne sich mindestens genauso viel Drama abspielt wie auf der Bühne selbst. Und ganz nebenbei entsteht so ein neues Musical - ein Musical über ein Musical sozusagen, ähnlich wie bei „The Producers“-von Mel Brooks. Das Ergebnis wird im Mockumentary-Stil dokumentiert. In die Hauptrolle des Ricky schlüpft Joshua Bassett. Er versucht durch seine Teilnahme am Musical seine Exfreundin Nina (Olivia Rodrigo) zurückzugewinnen.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series picks up nearly 15 years after the original movie aired at the real-life location where it all began: East High. It follows a group of students as they countdown to the opening night of their school's first-ever production of "High School Musical." Showmances blossom; friendships are tested while new ones are made; rivalries flare and lives are changed forever as these young people discover the transformative power that only a high school drama club can provide.
