Inger Johanne Vik (Melinda Kinnaman), Kriminalpsychologin und Mutter von zwei Töchtern, hat früher für das FBI in den USA gearbeitet und ist nun nach Schweden zurückgekehrt, um als Akademikerin tätig zu sein. Nachdem eine ihrer Töchter jedoch einen Mord beobachtet hat, sieht Inger sich gezwungen, in den Polizeidienst zurückzukehren und die Ermittlungen aufzunehmen.
